Before you begin this project, ensure that you have all the necessary materials. Here are the things that you will need:
• Craft Vinyl
• A plain white or off-white ceramic mug
• An X-Acto knife or precision scissors
• Transfer tape
• Iron (optional)
• Rubbing Alcohol
Clean the Mug
Prior to beginning your project, it is essential that you properly and thoroughly cleanse the mug by using a combination of soap, water, and rubbing alcohol. This technique will remove any oils from the surface area.
This guarantees that the adhesive securely attaches and won't come off after a few applications!
Step One: Choose Your Design
If you're looking to make your personalized mugs, the first step is deciding on what design works for you. Do you want something witty and humorous? Perhaps it should have your logo or even an image?

Step Two: Cut Out Your Vinyl Sticker

Step Three: Stick On Your Vinyl Sticker

Start by peeling off a small section of backing from one corner of your design and place it onto one side of the mug. Ensure that it is adequately adhered to by pressing down firmly in sections around it.
Make sure to press each piece with enough pressure so that they remain secure; if any pieces come off during this process, firmly push them back again until they are fixed.
This can be tricky because if too much pressure is applied, you could tear off pieces of vinyl from other pieces by accident; however, if not enough pressure is applied, then some parts may not stick properly or appear crooked on the mug. So be careful!
If you are using transfer tape, peel away some more backing until only a small portion remains attached to one corner of the transfer tape, then apply this to the other side of the mug and press down firmly.
Lastly, if you have an iron available, set it on low heat and press down across your design for 30 seconds - this will help ensure that all sections hold well over time.
And voila - now you have a beautiful custom coffee mug with craft vinyl!
